Wildlife

Alberta's forests are home to thousands of different species of wildlife. While we would like to be able to do our work without disturbing wildlife at all, that is obviously impossible. Anytime humans are in the forest, whether it is for recreational or industrial uses, or our own habitation, there are impacts on wildlife.

To address this fact, forest management plans all include provisions to work in the forest in a manner that has as small an impact as possible on wildlife. For instance, companies spend millions of dollars annually to conduct research into the needs of threatened wildlife species such as woodland caribou and grizzly bears. Harvesting plans are adjusted based on the research outcomes and then more research is conducted to monitor ongoing needs.
